IES Miguel de Cervantes

Our school is a public secondary school (Instituto de Enseñanza Secundaria) called Miguel de Cervantes. It is in the south of Granada, just about 15 minutes walk from the center. And this is the website of the school: http://iesmigueldecervantes.es//

The school has about six hundred students from 12-13 to 17-18 years old. There are six different levels: the four courses of Educación Secundaria Obligatoria or ESO, (Compulsary Secondary Education) and the two levels of Bachillerato, which is not compulsory and enables students to go to university. Most of our students do English as a foreign language.

Some students live in Granada, near the school, but many of them come from small towns near Granada: Cenes, Pinos Genil, Quentar, Güejar Sierra, Huetor Vega. I've asked some of them to describe their towns for you.

Pinos Genil

My town is Pinos Genil (Granada). My town is very small, but is very beautiful. It has got ducks in the river. In summer we swim in the river because the water is cold. It is near Sierra Nevada. In winter, it is very much cold. The photos are my town. I hope that you like it.
A greeting and kiss.

Güéjar Sierra

I live in a village called Güéjar sierra. It's near to Sierra Nevada and it's also near to Granada. It's a village very old.
The first stone was put by the Moorish, and the village was called Walayar.
In the centre of the city, it's the Church.
It's was built in the Medieval Age. In Güéjar Sierra, there is a castle, called "El Castillejo". It was the Moorish refugee.
In my village, you can practise a lot of types of sports: ride horses, mountain bike, climbing, etc... In the summer, if you were very exhausted, You could swim in the river.
My village has got beautiful views of Sierra Nevada. It's fantastic.

Pinos Genil

Pinos Genil is a small town in Granada ,Spain. It is ten kilometres from Granada. It is full of nature and has lots of animals. It is surrounded by a mountain range that makes it a very nice town completely surrounded by nature. The houses are old. It has about 1,262 habitants. The people come to the festival of Pinos Genil in summer, it is good. It is by de river Genil. It has two cemeteries. The church is very old and beautiful. The river is beautiful, it has many ducks and has got many rocks.

Sierra Nevada

My neighborhood is called "Carretera de la Sierra". It has a beautiful way to walk next to the river, you can go cycling, running or walking. In the river, before, there was a lot of competitions of canoes, but now it hasn't got enough water. If you live in a high flat (like me) you can see "Sierra Nevada", now it has a little of snow, but in winter it is always covered with snow. Next to the river there's a mountain (called "Serrallo" which a few years ago burned). The neighborhood is a long road with a lot of shops. Also, it has a primary school called "Virgen de las Nieves", I studied there. There are two churches, one is called like the primary school and the other is part of a school for deaf children. Most of the buildings have ten floors. The neighborhood is near the centre of Granada, you can get there in ten or twenty minutes and it has a sport center and a skate park which always is full. In the sport centre, they are building a swimming pool. Granada has an important building called Alhambra, this is building from the time of the Muslims.

Hello, I'm Victor

I live in Granada city with my family. My house is in “Carretera de la Sierra”. It is located very near the Alhambra and the center of the Granada. The street is very small and narrow, there are many white buildings. The river “Genil” goes through the center of Granada. The most visited place is Albayzin where live many persons.

In winter, it is very cold but summer is very hot. Many places can be visited through the year: Sierra Nevada, Alpujarra, Costa Tropical and great monuments all over Granada. My city has 500.000 inhabitans.
